The Loop detector works with the loop embedded in the ground. The sensor loop used in the Loop Detector is basically an inductor. It is simply a coil of wire. An inductor or a reactor is a passive electrical component that can store energy in a magnetic field created by the electric current passing through it.

Inductor is a conducting wire shaped as a coil, the loops helping to create a strong magnetic field inside the coil due to Faraday’s Law of Induction.

PRINCIPLE:

Inductance is an effect resulting from the magnetic field that forms around a current-carrying conductor which tends to resist changes in the current. Electric current through the conductor creates a magnetic flux proportional to the current, and a change in this current creates a corresponding change in magnetic flux which, i.e- by Faraday’s Law it generates an electromotive force (EMF) that opposes this change in current. The strength of Inductance depends upon the number of turns of loop.

STANDARD:

The Loop consists of a 12 to 18 gauge stranded wire suitable for direct burial with low AC ad DC resistance. The size of your loop will be determined by the width of the area you need detedtion in the height of the vehicle you need to detect. If high-bed trucks will be tetected not less than a 6’ side should be used. Smalle loops are suitable for car or fork truck detection. The depth of the saw cut is typically 1 ¼“ to 2 by 1/4” to 3/8” wide. The loop wire is wound to form a coil (usually 3 to 5 turns). There should be no splices in the loop.
