  • 35% of burglars come through open windows and doors, having an alarm system scares away these opportunistic burglars
  • Burglars spend less than 7 minutes in the home scanning quickly for expensive items, potentially costing you thousands in replacement expenses, which means having a home security system not only protects your family but protects your home’s assets
  • Homes with alarm systems are 3 times less likely to be burglarized, and half as likely to have cars parked in the driveway broken into
  • You can potentially receive Homeowners Insurance discounts up to 20% annually because you become a low risk client and less of a liability to your insurer
  • There are many other discounts you can receive by investing in a home security system including AARP member discounts

5 Simple Home Security Tips
Even if you have an alarm system installed there are certain safety strategies you should practice in your home.

  • Install a door chain. Many people already have a door chain and do not utilize it. It is important that if you see a stranger through your peephole that you use your door chain. If you do not have a door chain it is a cheap and effective investment—for example, the “door to door” type prep will not be able to see inside of your home.
  • Dresser drawers and door mats are not good hiding places. These are the most obvious places to hide important or expensive items, and they are the first place a burglar will look. Believe it or not people still hide their spare keys under door mats and jewelry in their underwear drawers.
  • Lights and television mean that you are home. If a burglar thinks that you are at home they are most likely not going to try to break in. If you are away in the evening try keeping your lights on with the curtains closed. If you are away on a trip then investing in a timed artificial television light emitter might be a worthy investment.

  • Ask for the help of a neighbor. Along with joining your local chapter of the Neighborhood Watch, you can ask your neighbor to do something as simple as removing newspapers from your porch when you are on vacations. This is an easy home security measure that keeps burglars from guessing when you are away on a trip.
  • Place your security system sticker in your front window. When you install an alarm system or other home security system it is important that you actually place the sticker in your window and the security system sign in your yard if you have one.

Current Spikes In Home Robbery
In my own neighborhood, the news reports that there has been a recent spike in home robbery. The few months before summer temperatures start to rise and homeowners begin to leave their windows open throughout the day and night. Authorities advise that you keep your doors and windows locked while you are away from home and in the evenings when you’ve gone to bed. As state above, a large number of burglaries are simply crimes of convenience and opportunity where burglars target homes that are easy to get into. Outside of having a home security system installed, closing a window is a really simple way of keeping burglars out of your home.

Landscaping Home Security Techniques
As mentioned above lights are an excellent way to keep away burglars. A porch light and even garden lights are an investment that not only protect you but enhance the look of your home. Phoenix construction contractors in my area have new modern styles of gates for homes as well that are probably available in your city too. Any signs of a home being difficult to enter will help keep away burglars who want an easy entrance. A fence with good locks will add to your home’s protection. And if your town is like mine where Phoenix construction services are abundant then you can find a really affordable installation price.

Monitored Home Security Systems
Monitored home security systems are the newest trend in the home security industry. They’ve popularized because they do more than just send out a loud audio signal. When an intruder enters a home monitored home security systems send a signal to the proper emergency authorities in your area who when alerted immediately know to come to your home. Also, with monitored home security systems emergency operators and other security authorities are available at the touch of a button just by using a simple control pad.
