U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted a group of people walking northbound about 15 miles west of Lukeville using surveillance equipment.

Agents responded to the area and took 22 illegal immigrants into custody.

A helicopter from the Office of Air and Marine (OAM) also responded to the area and located three other groups composed of approximately 35 people each hiding in the brush. A total of 128 individuals were taken into custody.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says large groups making their way illegally through the desert is becoming less common since agents began using the remote video surveillance system.

The technology lets fewer agents monitor vast areas of the desert. In the last two years the Department of Homeland Security has installed 58 surveillance systems, 36 mobile vehicle surveillance systems and 33 mobile surveillance systems in Arizona.
